Transforming Pope Francis’ popemobile into a mobile clinic for children in Gaza.

In Gaza humanitarian aid have been blocked and remains heavily restricted by Israel. To draw attention to the blockade, the NGO Caritas proposed to Pope Francis that his popemobile be converted into a mobile children's clinic.

Pope Francis blessed the initiative in his last months. It was launched by The New York Times one week after his funeral. In November 2025, the converted popemobile was unveiled to international media in Bethlehem.

It is still waiting for permission to enter Gaza. It will treat 200 children per day, and has inspired other NGOs to build 7 more mobile clinics.

It has been recognised with numerous awards, including a Grand Prix and a Gold in Cannes Lions, two Yellow Pencils in the D&AD Awards, a Gold ANDY and silver & bronze in Clio Awards.
